Container vessel Andante berthed today at AGCT on its Maiden voyage within the „Piraeus Rijeka Express (PRS)“, new weekly service launched by COSCO exclusively linking Rijeka and Piraeus.

134m long and 23m wide, container vessel Andante has a maximum capacity of 868 TEU and will be calling Rijeka every Monday, while sailing from Piraeus every Friday. Transit time between two ports is 2.5 days. The service is scheduled to be compatible with COSCO’s rail connections towards Hungary and Serbia which, after successful tests in the past few months, is also launched this week. For now, two weekly trains for Hungary and one for Belgrade are confirmed.

Effectively, this means that the containers discharged from vessel on Monday will be dispatched by rail the day after (Tuesday) towards Budapest, where their arrival is expected on Thursday. Export train from Budapest leaves on Friday and arrives to Rijeka on Sunday, just in time to be loaded on vessel on Monday.

By this setup, interlinking overseas and rail services within the term Rijeka Landsea Express, Cosco offers its client overall transit time: 32 days from East China and 28 days from South China to Budapest, using Piraeus and Rijeka as ports.

Although the new PRS Express service will substitute the existing AGT service, Rijeka will still have excellent connection with Turkish ports, but also with all the mayor Mediterranean and World ports via wide selection of COSCO services calling Piraeus.

Initiating the Rijeka Landsea Express project, which connects maritime and rail transportation COSCO offers its clients full logistic solutions from China to European market, and by selecting Rijeka proves that they recognise the importance that Rijeka has as the North Adriatic Gateway for Central and SE Europe.
