A new milestone was achieved last week at Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) with the call of CMA CGM EUGENIE, which recorded the highest vessel exchange of the year so far at AGCT.
During the call, a total of 3,580 moves, representing 6,622 TEU, were handled, marking the highest volume of containers discharged and loaded during a single vessel call in 2026.
The vessel also set a new all-time record for rail connectivity from a single vessel call at AGCT. As many as 21 block trains are scheduled to connect cargo from this vessel with key markets across Central Europe, including Hungary, Slovakia and Austria, in addition to numerous further rail services serving regional markets.
At 366 metres in length and with a nominal capacity of 16,188 TEU, CMA CGM EUGENIE is one of the new-generation vessels deployed on the Ocean Alliance MED 5 service, providing a regular weekly connection between the Far East and the Adriatic. The service brings together CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, OOCL and Evergreen Line.
Built in 2025, CMA CGM EUGENIE is equipped to use methanol as an alternative fuel, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the global container fleet towards more sustainable solutions.
The latest milestone further demonstrates the growing role of Rijeka as a gateway to Central and South-Eastern Europe, combining direct maritime connections with an expanding network of rail services into the hinterland.
